Should this CEO be fired? Absolutely.
By Ralf Skirr.
HBO co-president Eric Kessler has said he thinks the move away from traditional television to an internet-based model is just a fad that will pass – a “temporary phenomenon” tied to the down economy.
I think Eric Kessler, too, is just a fad that will pass. :-) He's delusional, showing the exact attitude that made the music industry the loser of the last decade. Yet, I can understand how a music industry CEO could get it wrong 10 years ago. How you still can get it wrong in 2012 is a mystery to me.
It's a mystery that I also encounter with small business clients who have a hard time understanding that static web sites and zero social media is cutting them off from where the world is going.
As a business owner or CEO you need to look ahead a little, and make sure your're biz isn't turning into a dinosaur. Failing to do so is not only missing opportunities, it's risking the extinction of your business, even the extinction of whole industries.
If HBO doesn't change their attidtude, they'll be extinct, too. And a newcomer will happily rake in the profits, like Apple is now raking in the profits that the music industry, with just a little foresight, could have kept to itself.
Change brings opportunities. Don't miss out!
