Web 2.0 Marketing Tip #10: Get A Profile At Linkedin.com

By Ralf Skirr.

Have you created an account on Twitter and Facebook yet? No. We’re not really going to look deeper into any of those two popular social networking sites.

Today, we will look at another big player in the web 2.0 world: LinkedIn

LinkedIn is currently (May 2010) at #17 at Alexa’s rank of the world’s most important web sites.

I bet you didn’t know that! Getting such a good spot on Alexa’s list, it certainly is an asset for your business!

LinkedIn: The What, How, and Why

In a nutshell, LinkedIn is a social network focused on gathering professionals–teachers, graphic designers, writers, engineers, marketers, and on. If you’re not familiar with LinkedIn, you might be surprised to find out that they’ve already collected information about you and have used it to construct a profile that might include some or all of the following information:

1)    Where you went to college

2)    What jobs you hold or have held in the past

3)    What businesses you have owned or own

4)    Miscellaneous personal and professional information about you

That might sound creepy. However, you can look at it in another light: that is another tool for you to present yourself and your business as well as showcase your skills and experience. Of course, you will still have the ability to change what the profile shows and you can always opt to use it to establish connection with other business owners and potential clients. You can do this simply y creating a profile.

Once you have created your own profile, you will gain a lot of options in terms of promotion and networking. Nevertheless, for now, you don’t need to worry about anything but getting the ball rolling by creating a profile.

Hop right over to their site and sign up. It’s only 5 minutes, and you’ll own another piece of Web 2.0 real estate.
